C & C = Collision is a collaborative series by Cesar Conde and CJ Hungerman in which realism collides with abstract, surrealistic landscapes. Conde, a painter of realistic portraits, creates detailed likenesses grounded in identity and character. Hungerman, an abstract artist known for densely layered compositions, reinterprets these portraits through his own visual language.
Conde provides Hungerman with the portrait and contextual information about the subject such as their identity, personality, and passions. Hungerman builds upon this foundation by applying colorful, highenergy elements that take on a life of their own, transforming the image into something electrifying and explosive. Through this process, realism and abstraction feed off one another, producing works that exist between representation and imagination.
The collaboration has become an exciting and invigorating new adventure for both artists. It takes courage for an artist to hand over their
work to another, and C & C = Collision is an exercise in trust, vulnerability, and friendship.
Cesar Conde is a contemporary painter whose work addresses relevant social issues. An artist and activist, he believes art is a powerful
tool for social change. He studied at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, and trained with French master Showing Their True Stripes, 2025, oil on panel, 30 x 30 inches Evicted From Our Place in This World, 2023, oil on panel, 40 x 40 inches Patrick Betaudier in his atelier in southern France, as well as with Ed Hinkley in Chicago.
CJ Hungerman is an abstract painter whose work explores energy, movement, and emotional intensity through color and texture. He holds
an MFA in Painting/Design from Northern Illinois University.
