Constructed in 1980

The Carl Building Technologies Center provides instructional laboratories and classrooms for programs related to building construction, service, and maintenance.

Skills students learn here often are applied off campus, onto real- world projects, in order to continue the "hands-on" educational experience in ways that benefit the community.

Dr. Kenneth E. Carl

Dr. Kenneth E. Carl was the first president of Williamsport Area Community College. He spent much of his life – education and experience – connected to the institution. He was a Williamsport Technical Institute graduate who became a member of its drafting faculty and eventually its director. He was one of the architects of Pennsylvania's community college system and served as WACC's president.

Students Build

Students designed and built a number of College facilities including the Thompson Professional Development Center, Victorian House, Field House and previously owned Morgan Valley Retreat Center.

In addition, a homebuilding project conducted by forerunners of Pennsylvania College of Technology provided practical experience for students and introduced new family homes into the community.

Six homes in the Williamsport area, designed and built by students of Williamsport Technical Institute and Williamsport Area Community College, were purchased by local residents in the 1960s and 70s.
