Spotlight on Sports: Fall teams all see action

Last week in review: The men’s and women’s soccer teams both went 1-0-1, women’s volleyball was 1-2, and the golf, cross-country and women’s tennis teams also saw action.
MEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s hometown highlights: AJ Sedor, of Bloomsburg, scored the lone goal in the 68th minute, and goalie Justin Crismale, of Glen Gardner, New Jersey, made it stand up with two saves in Tuesday’s win at Alfred State. At Cairn University in the United East opener on Saturday, Logan Pietrzak, of Philadelphia, scored the lone Penn College goal in the 76th minute, and Crismale had four saves in a draw.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s hometown highlights: Sara Darlington, of West Chester, evened the score Wednesday against Ramapo and goalie Taylor Brownback, of Birdsboro, made three saves as the match ended in a draw. In the team’s UE opener at Cairn on Saturday, goals by Candace Holmberg, of Fairfield, Ella Garman, of Boiling Springs, and Darlington, two assists by Brooke Klinger, of Herndon, along with a defensive effort that didn’t allow a shot on goal, led to the team’s seventh shutout of the season and extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 34. Also, Garman was awarded UE Offensive Player of the Week honors for her three-goal week Sept. 15-21.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Last week’s hometown highlights: In a 3-2 win over Penn State Schuylkill on Monday that gave the team its third win of the season, equaling last season’s win total, Lilly Stockum, of Dauphin, had 22 kills and three aces; Kendall Shade, of Reinholds, had seven blocks; Sara Seyfert, of Nazareth, had five aces, six kills and three blocks; Ellen Banfill, of Mill Hall, had 29 assists and 18 digs; Nashalie Vializ, of New Holland, had 28 digs and four assists; and Haylie Thomsen, of High Bridge, New Jersey, had 19 digs, eight kills and three assists. On Friday at King’s College, Stockum had 10 kills, Banfill 16 assists and Vializ 16 digs. Among the leaders in Saturday’s UE loss at Cairn University were Banfill with 10 assists, Vializ with eight digs and Stockum with seven kills.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Ben Causak, of Lebanon, placed 56th in a field of 161 in 29:28 at the 8K Dickinson College Long-Short Invitational on Saturday in the Wildcats’ first time at the event since 2021. Also scoring team points were Mitchell Campbell, of Riegelsville, 71st in 30:00; Chase Ebeling, of Bellefonte, 72nd in 30:01; Holden Furey, of Williamsport, 75th in 30:07; and Aaron Guerrisky, of South Williamsport, 94th in 31:13.

Following were Ellie Miller, of Hughesville, 106th in 29:40; Natalie Greiner, of Mount Joy, 120th in 32:16; Adelyn McDermott, of Williamsport, 123rd in 33:27; and Gwynn Johnson, of Staunton, Virginia, 126th in 34:28

Last week’s hometown highlights: In the fall season-opening Gauntlet at Bucknell Golf Club last Sunday and Monday, Gunner Redmond, of Lock Haven, led the Wildcats with rounds of 75-77—152 and tied for 29th in a field of 75. Freshman Chase Dillman, of Boyertown, ended two shots behind Redmond and tied for 39th.
