Pennsylvania College of Technology presented faculty and staff with a variety of awards and recognized employees and retirees who have reached significant milestones as the 2023-24 academic year concludes. President Michael J. Reed celebrated the honorees during a May 9 All-College meeting in the Klump Academic Center auditorium.

Representatives from Coterra Energy, Pennsylvania College of Technology and elected officials from the region gathered on Jan. 24 for the presentation of a $1.4 million check in conjunction with the company’s Neighborhood Assistance Program donation to the college. The funds will pay for renovation and expansion of labs and instructional spaces in the college’s electrical and architecture & sustainable design programs, as well as generate Camp Freedom scholarships for veterans and first responders.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held its last commencement ceremony of 2023 on Dec. 16, an occasion marked by comfort and joy – both inside the Community Arts Center and out.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Board of Directors on Thursday unanimously approved the appointment of Joanna K. Flynn as vice president for academic affairs and provost, the highest-ranking academic officer at the institution. Flynn has served as the interim appointee in the position since August while continuing to perform the duties of her previous role as dean of curriculum and instruction.

The Susquehanna Council, Boy Scouts of America presented its 2023 Distinguished Citizen Award to Michael J. Reed, president of Pennsylvania College of Technology, and his wife, Christina Steinbacher-Reed, executive director of BLaST Intermediate Unit 17. The Distinguished Citizen honor annually recognizes local leaders who have made a substantial impact in the community. The honor was presented Nov. 28 in the Thompson Professional Development Center on the Penn College campus.

Penn College's 2022-23 Impact Report is available online. The report, titled "Worth the Investment," features a video message from President Michael J. Reed and reviews a few of the myriad ways Penn College, through the efforts of employees, students, alumni and supporters, made its mark in the workforce and touched communities near and far.

Through expansion of a state program announced on Nov. 20, Pennsylvania College of Technology will receive more than $1.4 million from Coterra Energy for renovation and expansion of labs and instructional spaces in its electrical and architecture & sustainable design programs. The funding will also generate scholarships for veterans and first responders from Camp Freedom.

With the signing of House Bill 1461 on Thursday by Gov. Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s state appropriation for 2023-24 increases by $3.23 million (12.1%) to $29.97 million. Lawmakers approved the legislation on Wednesday.

An ongoing partnership between Pennsylvania College of Technology and Miller Electric Mfg. LLC helps to ensure that students in the college’s welding and fabrication majors can continue to hone their skills on state-of-the-art equipment used throughout the welding industry.

A $1 million grant from the Gene Haas Foundation sparked extensive renovations to Pennsylvania College of Technology’s automated manufacturing lab while expanding scholarship offerings and enabling the college to promote manufacturing careers more broadly to K-12 students. The Gene Haas Center for Innovative Manufacturing was formally dedicated on Nov. 6.
