A western Pennsylvania mining company has established a $1 million scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology to honor an alumnus employee who died July 31 while working in his beloved field of equipment repair. Amerikohl Mining Inc. and its owner and president, John Stilley, endowed the fund in memory of Steelyn G.

Baking and pastry arts student Kristina M. Williams adds chocolate “ribbons” to petit fours, a “gift” for guests following the meal. Chef Brian O’Hea guides culinary arts and systems student Sammera T. Fleming in plating eggplant caponata, the first course.

A scholarship has been established by Volkswagen of America Inc. and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation/Automotive Youth Educational System in memory of a Pennsylvania College of Technology automotive technology alumnus. Zachary C. Teter, who graduated in August 2011 with an associate degree, was killed in a March 19 vehicle accident in Schuylkill County.

Penn College's vice president for institutional advancement will be among the community leaders taking part in the Peter Herdic House's annual Celebrity Waiter Night to benefit the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy. Barry R. Stiger and other local luminaries will stand in for the regular staff at the 407 W. Fourth St. restaurant on Friday, March 7, donating to the NPC any tips they earn.

The next installment of the Visiting Chef Series at Pennsylvania College of Technology will bring a taste of Maine, as chefs Brian O’Hea and Shanna Katherine Horner O’Hea mentor students to prepare an elegant benefit dinner.

Bruce A. Emig, a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member who died in May 2013 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, has been memorialized by a scholarship at the college. Emig’s wife, Cindy, endowed the scholarship in his memory. Emig was an assistant professor of HVAC technology who had been employed at Penn College since 1989.

In 2012-13, Penn College and the Penn College Foundation received in-kind donations of equipment, technology, materials and supplies from business and industry for instructional purposes valued at $651,527 and cash donations totaling $969,708, for a total of $1,621,235. Donors included 758 alumni and 450 employees, who together contributed $381,582.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has expanded the size and technical capacity of its building automation lab, thanks in part to the support of Honeywell and Ecosave Automation Inc. Both companies donated equipment and supportive software for the lab, which provides invaluable hands-on training for students enrolled in the college’s building automation technology bachelor-degree major.

Schneider Electric has established an endowed scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology as part of the Penn College Scholarship Campaign. Hunter S. Forney, of Shippensburg, is the first recipient of an award from the Schneider Electric Scholarship.

Recognizing Pennsylvania College of Technology among its core partners for educating the next generation of construction managers, one of the largest general contractors in the United States has donated a piece of job-site technology to the institution.
