As a week of ice-scraper mornings temporarily surrendered to warmer temps and plentiful sunshine, the final Open House of the Fall 2023 semester attracted a lively crowd of aspiring Penn College students and their families. Faculty/staff, students and alumni combined to make it an informative day for visitors, who filled their Sunday with tours – both general and pinpointed to their specific interests – and a variety of optional activities focused on academic and campus life.

America's evolving cultural makeup and the role that diversity may play in the 2024 presidential election generated insightful discussion as Penn College held its 2023 Technology & Society Colloquia on Wednesday night. The presenter for the program – “Changing Demographics and the 2024 Election: The Politics of Race and Ethnicity” – was Luis Ricardo Fraga, from the University of Notre Dame.

A renowned printmaker whose multicolor intaglio prints are in museums around the world is sharing his work through Dec. 1 in The Gallery at Penn College. Yuji Hiratsuka’s “Retro Urban Mode” exhibit showcases his whimsical and satirical images, crafted with his unique technique of chine collé with etching. He will also offer an artist’s talk via Zoom at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. Registration is required and can be made at the gallery website.

Penn College observed National Hispanic Heritage Month during a Tuesday event in the Bush Campus Center for students, employees and community members. Following the same "Lunch and Learn" format as a Juneteenth program in late spring, the afternoon included speakers, a catered meal and the chance to cross-culturally engage one another in pursuit of common goals.

The 14th Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Dinner & Auction raised a total of $141,000 for student scholarships at the college. Held at Penn College’s Madigan Library, the event was sponsored by Lycoming Engines and featured a live auction of 25 donated items and services by Ron Roan of Roan Inc. Auctioneers & Appraisers, who donated his professional services, as well as a silent auction of 26 items and services.

WNEP’s Chris Keating visited Penn College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic on Monday to report on the upcoming Sealant Saturday. During the Nov. 4 event, second-year dental hygiene students will be joined by faculty and volunteer dentists and dental hygienists to provide free oral care to children and teens.

“Changing Demographics and the 2024 Election: The Politics of Race and Ethnicity” will be the topic for a Technology & Society Colloquia Series presentation by Luis Ricardo Fraga on Oct. 25 at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, Pennsylvania College of Technology will provide free dental care to children and teens age 7-18. From 9 a.m. to noon in the college’s Dental Hygiene Clinic, volunteer dentists and dental hygienists and Penn College students will provide free oral screenings, sealants and education during an activity dubbed “Sealant Saturday.” Appointments are required and can be made by calling 570-320-8007.

A Halloween Horror Spectacular is coming to the Community Arts Center on Oct. 30, a one-night-only event that marks the return of movies to the downtown theater's screen. Tickets, priced at $12 and $15, are available through the CAC website.

Three representatives of the Student Government Association hit "refresh" on a Penn College tradition Monday morning, adding vividly visible school spirit to the Veterans' Fountain for the 2023 edition of Wildcat Weekend.
