Students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's IEEE student chapter recently helped the family of the late Fallon Pardoe-Cartegena and the late Jarrod Neuhard raise $430 for the catastrophic loss fund of the American Red Cross of Upper Northumberland County.

Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College IEEE (originally the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Student Branch hosted the 2008 IEEE Region 2 Student Activities Conference on April 8 and have announced the results of the event's competitions.

The student chapter of IEEE at Penn College hosted the organization's Region 2 Student Activities Conference on campus over the weekend. One hundred forty IEEE student members from 18 colleges in the region participated in a variety of electronics-related competition.

Two faculty from the Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology department recently completed Tyco Electronics' Netconnect Act I and Act II, a two-course sequence covering the installation, certification and troubleshooting of copper and optical fiber premises cabling systems.

A donation of equipment from a Harrisburg-based electronics distributor has allowed Pennsylvania College of Technology to also receive a $75,000 equipment grant from the state toward furnishing new electronics and computer engineering technology laboratories with the latest industry-standard equipment.

On Thursday, Oct. 11, the Cisco Networking Academy at Penn College will host the Cisco Systems Network On Wheels (NOW), sponsored by NEC Unified Solutions, Inc. The Cisco NOW is a 25-foot van equipped with the latest Cisco networking technologies. This unique showcase provides hands-on demonstrations of proven integrated networking solutions that are customizable to any business size and needs.

On Tuesday afternoon, approximately 30 students from the Information Technology and Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology programs enjoyed a presentation by Harry Rundall, territory sales manager for Fluke Networks.

For the second straight year, the Pennsylvania College of Technology Student Branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers placed fifth in the institute's annual international Web site contest held recently.
