On Friday, Nov. 12, Penn College's Accounting Society took an educational trip to the Yuengling Brewing Co. in Pottsville. In an unprecedented measure of the institution's success in an international business-simulation competition, three teams of Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently finished in the Top 100. "There are 4,155 teams competing on a worldwide basis, (and) we had three teams in the top 100!" said Gerald D. "Chip" Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration.

The Internal Revenue Service's free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Pennsylvania College of Technology students annually prepare hundreds of returns for area taxpayers, will offer two by-appointment-only sessions for Northern Tier residents this season. The program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, and from 1 to 6 p.m.

The seventh annual "Money in Your Pocket" campaign, through which Pennsylvania College of Technology students collaborate with the Internal Revenue Service and Salvation Army volunteers to help hundreds of area residents prepare and file their returns, will begin Feb. 1.

Current job opportunities and issues in the accounting field will be among the topics addressed in a discussion sponsored by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Accounting Society and faculty from the college's School of Business and Computer Technologies. Penn College has been honored by the Internal Revenue Service for its participation in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which uses agency-certified business students to provide free tax help to qualified area residents. The college again collaborated this past tax season with the Salvation Army, where a brief ceremony was held Monday in recognition of that longtime involvement.
