Two by-appointment-only opportunities for free tax assistance have been scheduled at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro. The Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Penn College students help prepare hundreds of income-tax returns each season, will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance campaign, in which Pennsylvania College of Technology students partner with The Salvation Army and Internal Revenue Service, is helping hundreds of eligible area residents prepare and file their returns this season.

Faculty from Penn College's School of Business and Computer Technologies again worked with Marcia McCann, instructional learning support teacher at Williamsport's Curtin Middle School, to offer brown-bag lunch sessions for students during the fall semester. In an unprecedented measure of the institution's success in an international business-simulation competition, three teams of Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently finished in the Top 100. "There are 4,155 teams competing on a worldwide basis, (and) we had three teams in the top 100!" said Gerald D. "Chip" Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration.
