On the 52nd annual Earth Day, Pennsylvania College of Technology hailed a phenomenon only slightly younger: the Schneebeli Earth Science Center, home to memories, marvels and the makers of a million tomorrows. Observing the milestone golden anniversary of the Allenwood area campus on a beautiful spring afternoon, attendees reveled in "this special place" known as the ESC.

Ten Pennsylvania College of Technology students – including three who graduated in December – obtained state Department of Agriculture Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification after testing during the fall semester. “This definitely will give the students an advantage over others entering the workforce, as many employers look for this type of certification,” said Carl J.

Twenty-seven Pennsylvania College of Technology students received Innovation Engineering Blue Belt certification following their successful completion of all modules within the Principles of Innovation course at the college. The course teaches the fundamentals of innovation, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving and stimuli for effective innovation.

Pennsylvania College of Technology students again provided free income tax preparation services to the community, helping scores of taxpayers file their 2020 returns for a total combined refund amount of $143,919. “This year, even with our capacity limited (due to COVID-19 protocols), we were able to get 124 federal and state returns filed,” said Bob M.

Despite a shortened window of opportunity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 15 Pennsylvania College of Technology student volunteers helped taxpayers file 120 2019 tax returns through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The free service, known as VITA, is designed to help taxpayers who have relatively uncomplicated income tax returns to prepare their returns and file electronically.

Career Day brought hundreds of ninth-12th graders to campus on Thursday to explore more than 30 activities offered by employees and students to help high-schoolers learn about the wide variety of career options available to them. Nine students from Pennsylvania College of Technology’s SkillsUSA team earned medals in six categories – three silvers and three bronzes – during the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, from June 24-29. “The students represented themselves and the college well, and it showed with the number of medals we returned home with,” said SkillsUSA adviser James N.
