More than 120 students have petitioned to graduate at Pennsylvania College of Technology's August commencement exercises, set for Friday, Aug. 11, at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. In addition to conferring bachelor and associate degrees and certificates, the College will present Student Achievement Awards. The ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has announced the winners of the 2000 Legal Assistant Student Writing Competition, the first ever of its kind among paralegal/legal assistant students nationwide. The winner of the $500 First Place award is Marilee M. Patton of North Carolina. The winner of the $300 Second Place award is Y.E. Fray of California.

The New Choices/New Options program at Pennsylvania College of Technology − which provides career guidance and life-skills training for single parents, displaced homemakers and those pursuing nontraditional vocations − has been awarded $156,480 in state funding for the 2000-01 academic year.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has announced the appointment of Dennis E. Gilbert as director of the Technology Transfer Center. A Williamsport native, Gilbert is a Penn College alumnus with a degree in computer science. He has more than 14 years of technology-related experience, with the past 10 years in a technology business-management capacity.

A trio of Pennsylvania College of Technology students captured medals in the 36th annual SkillsUSA-VICA national championships held recently in Kansas City, Mo. Two Penn College students finished second in their events and another finished third.

Educators, industry representatives and supporters of graphic-arts education − including "Benjamin Franklin" − will convene at Pennsylvania College of Technology from Sunday, July 30, through Friday, Aug. 4, for the 75th annual conference of the International Graphic Arts Education Association.

Michael V. Knorr, an incoming freshman enrolled for the fall semester at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Knorr, of Gilberton, is enrolled in the Computer-Aided Drafting Technology associate-degree program.

Christopher O. Juden, a student in the Physician Assistant program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been appointed Northeast Regional Communications Representative for the Student Association of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro recently served as one of 10 host locations for a statewide videoconference entitled, "Consulting Small Business on Pennsylvania Regulations and Resources."
