Improved pitching, backed by a solid defense, good speed and power hitting, could translate into something very special for the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's softball team this season. The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to open Wednesday with a doubleheaderat Luzerne County Community College.

With new players joining as recently as Wednesday, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's volleyball team has had little time to jell before its season opener Sunday. "They're a little rough. But without a doubt there's some talent there and hopefully I can whip them into shape and we can have a pretty good season," said Wes Strayer, who enters his first season as coach.

Student teams from six colleges will test their mettle in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Woodsman Meet at Pennsylvania College of Technology on April 24, an event that also will feature a lumberjack sports challenge conducted by event co-sponsor Stihl Inc. The activities, which include a reunion of Penn College Forestry alumni, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A special four-hour Hatha Yoga Asana Workshop taught by three area yoga instructors will be offered Saturday, April 17, at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, the workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Penn's Inn in the Bush Campus Center on the main campus in Williamsport.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's male and female compound archery teams closed out the indoor portion of their season in fine fashion with first-place finishes in the Eastern Regionals and second-place finishes at nationals.

Novices can acquire the fundamental skills and knowledge of the craft of woodworking by enrolling in the noncredit "Woodworking 101" course being offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Classes for the course will meet from 4:30 to 9 p.m.

To say that the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's bowling team dominated the recent Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association championships would be an understatement. For the first time in school history, every member of the squad came home with either a first or second place finish in each of four categories and produced state champions in three of them all-event, doubles and team.

A Lancaster company that hires graduates of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Diesel Technology and Heavy Construction Equipment Technology programs and provides summer and vacation employment opportunities for students has established a scholarship at the College. Distribution of the H.L. Wiker and Sons, Inc. Scholarship will begin this fall.

Last fall, the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference. This spring, coach Mike Stanzione would like to take his team one step further. "(In the fall) we had a lot of depth on our team. We had 10 reliable pitchers, two people for each position and defensively we were sound.
