“Our welding and fabrication engineering technology programs are distinctive and rank among the best in the nation. Industry leaders are in dire need of talent who have both technical expertise and durable skills to advance companies forward. Our welding programs play a pivotal role in addressing that demand. Equipment entrusted by Miller Electric is vital in the education of our welding students, preparing them to contribute on day one in industry. We greatly appreciate the company’s longstanding support of our educational mission,” said Penn College President Michael J. Reed.
Penn College enrolls approximately 350 welding students, who receive firsthand experience in a 55,000-square-foot lab, believed to be the largest such welding facility in higher education nationwide.
“It’s awesome for our students and faculty to have Miller Electric’s support,” said Michael R. Allen, instructor and co-department head of welding. “Whether seeking a certificate in welding, an associate degree in welding technology, a bachelor’s degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology, or an associate degree in non-destructive testing, all of our students will use their equipment. It would be very difficult to provide students with hands-on opportunities without Miller Electric’s commitment to our program.”
Miller Electric is a global manufacturer of welding equipment and solutions. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works, a Fortune 500 industrial manufacturing company.
“The skilled trades are essential to the industries and communities we serve, and developing the next generation of welding professionals is a responsibility we share with educators across the country,” said Dave Lambert, group president of ITW welding. “Miller is committed to supporting welding education and helping students gain the skills and experience they need to prepare for rewarding careers. We’re proud of our longstanding partnership with Penn College and the opportunity to provide its students with hands-on experience using technologies they will encounter in industry.”
For over a decade, Miller Electric has supported Penn College. The company is a member of the Millionaire’s Society ($1 million-plus) on the college’s Donor Wall and participates in the Corporate Tomorrow Maker program.
“Miller Electric is a longtime trusted partner of Penn College. The company’s legacy of giving to support our welding program continues to have a profound impact on our students and their futures in industry. We are deeply grateful for this continued partnership,” said Shanin L. Dougherty, senior corporate relations officer.
