Penn College polymers program receives equipment donation

Pennsylvania College of Technology polymer engineering students are benefiting from the generosity of RJG Inc., a global full-service injection molding solutions company.  

RJG has donated its CoPilot advanced injection molding control system with accessories and a software subscription. Valued at $19,180, the system is integrated with a Fanuc RoboShot injection molding machine that was gifted to the college by West Pharmaceutical Services Inc.

“CoPilot is a third-party control system that adds more capability than what is typically found on an injection molding machine,” explained Mark A. Sneidman, instructor of polymer technology. “Each mold that is installed in an injection molding machine is unique and is not integrated into the machine’s controls. The CoPilot system allows the operator to tie mold pressure data into the machine’s controls, allowing for greater management of the production process.”

Students seeking a certificate in polymer processing, an associate degree in polymer technology or a bachelor’s degree in polymer engineering technology can use the system provided by RJG. Both degree programs have a 100% graduate placement rate.

“The system enhances the education of students by exposing them to technology that the top injection molders use,” Sneidman said. “Many manufacturers that require precision – notably in the electronics and medical fields – utilize this technology.”

“RJG’s technology has always been closely connected to education. It was originally developed to give molders visibility into what was happening inside the mold, helping them see and understand the process in a way they couldn’t before,” said Jason Robinson, consultant training manager at RJG. “Donating this technology gives students the opportunity to learn those same principles through hands-on experience. We’re excited to help prepare the next generation of molding professionals by giving them access to the tools and technology they’ll encounter in the industry.”
