Continuing its long-standing support of Pennsylvania College of Technology, the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation is awarding $50,000 toward Mature Student scholarships.
This is the fourth consecutive year the foundation has earmarked $50,000 for the scholarships. Eligible students must have completed half of their coursework toward a bachelor’s degree and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation has awarded Pennsylvania College of Technology $50,000 toward Mature Student scholarships. The scholarships aim to reduce adults’ dependence on loans while seeking higher education. This is the fourth consecutive year the foundation has earmarked $50,000 for the scholarships.
The goal of the Newcombe Scholarships for Mature Students is to reduce adults’ dependence on loans when seeking higher education. Such students typically have multiple personal responsibilities, making it difficult to juggle family life, work, school and finances.
“We are very grateful for the strong commitment that the Newcombe Foundation continually demonstrates for our mature students,” said Kyle A. Smith, vice president for college relations. “We recognize the additional challenges faced by these students, and scholarship support from the foundation helps remove financial barriers for completing their degree, which is a proven pathway to a highly skilled position.”
Penn College has an overall graduate placement rate of 98%.

A member of the Visionary Society ($100,000-$499,999) on the college’s Donor Wall, the foundation began in 1979, the result of a $16 million bequest from the estate of Charlotte W. Newcombe, a Philadelphia philanthropist. In her will, she named five trustees and charged them with creating a foundation that would continue her lifelong interest in supporting students pursuing higher education.
The foundation has awarded over $75 million in scholarships since 1981.
