Creativity highlights Children's Learning Center celebrations

On Sept. 11, the Dunham Children’s Learning Center celebrated Grandparents Day (observed nationally the first Sunday after Labor Day). The children completed a craft with their grandparents and showed off their classrooms.

Grandparents Day has been a national holiday since 1978.

Leaving their mark

The Bunnies class at the Dunham Children’s Learning Center celebrated International Dot Day on Sept. 15. The Bunnies created a dot to “make their mark,” then went out on campus to see what Penn College students and staff would create with their marks, each finishing the line: "I would leave my mark and make my dot into a ___."

International Dot Day was initiated by an elementary school teacher after reading “The Dot,” a children’s book that encourages creativity, to his students. “The Dot,” written by Peter H. Reynolds, is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark.” What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage.

“We hope everyone does something today to share their mark and help make the world a better place,” childcare teacher Stacie L. Smith said.
