Students receive PLNA scholarships

Friday, January 16, 2026

Two Pennsylvania College of Technology students have been awarded scholarships totaling $10,000 from the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association Foundation.

The 2025-26 PLNA Foundation Scholarship recipients are Cale M. Rice, of Julian, and Trinity E. Willoughby, of Danville, both landscape/plant production technology students and each receiving a $5,000 scholarship.

Ted Ventre, a PLNA board member and owner of Hively Landscapes, Dover, visited a class during finals presentations Dec. 11 to present the students with their scholarships.

Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture, was on hand for the presentation at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center.

“Cale and Trinity are so deserving of this scholarship; they both exemplify excellence in their character and academics,” he said. “I know that they will both do big things in our industry, and it’s nice to see them be recognized for their accomplishments. We are thankful for the support that the (Pennsylvania) Landscape & Nursery Association gives to our students.”

The purpose of the PLNA Foundation Scholarship is to enhance the relationship between students and the landscape and nursery industry, and to recognize the efforts of outstanding students of horticulture, nursery production, landscape contracting or a strongly related field.
