Spotlight on Sports: Basketball teams begin conference run

Last week: After early-week nonconference losses, the Wildcat basketball teams returned to action on Saturday in their first of 12 regular-season-ending United East Conference games.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Last week’s highlights: Octavio Alexander, of Dallas, Texas, scored 11 points, and Josh Shepherd, of Breinigsville, tallied 10 in Monday’s loss to Eastern Connecticut State in the first round of the Eastern Holiday Invitational.
In the invitational’s consolation game Tuesday against No. 23 Wesleyan University, Monday’s top two scorers repeated their prior day’s stats, with Alexander scoring 11 and Shepherd adding 10 points in the loss.
On Saturday at Notre Dame (Md.) University, Alexander poured in 24 points as the team experienced its second six-game losing streak of the season.

Last week’s highlights: Gigi Parlante, of Williamsport, tallied 17 points, and Breana Valentine, of Fairfield, scored 13 in Tuesday’s loss at Centenary University.
In UEC action on Saturday at Notre Dame (Md.) University, Parlante scored 23 points, and RaeAnna Andreas, of Berwick, added 10 as the Wildcats dropped their fourth game in a row.
