Members of the Penn College community across campus wore purple on Thursday to show support for survivors of domestic violence.

Purple Thursday is part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As part of the commemoration, YWCA of Northcentral PA hosted a table in the Hager Lifelong Education center to share information and resources about domestic violence.

“Fifty-seven percent of college students who report experiencing dating violence and abuse said it occurred in college," said Claire Morehart, a YWCA counselor. “Purple Thursday is such an important way to show solidarity with survivors and honor those affected by domestic violence.”

"Purple Thursday is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe and respected," added Bradley M. Walter, manager of campus recreation and wellness. "Together, we can break the silence and support survivors through awareness, empathy and action."
