Spotlight on Sports: Fall teams go 4-4

Last week in review: Pennsylvania College of Technology’s fall sports teams went a combined 4-4 as their seasons got underway, led by the women’s soccer team, which won both of its matches.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s highlights: Three second-half goals, with Olivia Casella, of South Williamsport, scoring once and assisting on another, lifted Penn College to its first win, 3-0 on Friday, after three lifetime losses against Alfred University. Freshman goalie Taylor Brownback, of Birdsboro, made two saves in earning the shutout. Scoreless into the 67th minute on Sunday at Alfred State College, the Wildcats scored twice late for their win and improved to 5-0-1 lifetime against ASC. Brooke Klinger, of Herndon, tallied the game-winning goal, while Brownback had three saves and recorded her second shutout.

MEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s highlights: Freshman Josh Hudak, of Allentown, had one goal and an assist in the team’s 3-0 Friday win over Centenary and freshman Justin Crismale, of Glen Gardner, New Jersey, earned the shutout in goal. In a 4-1 Saturday loss to King’s College, Scott Goldfeder, of Mechanicsburg, scored the lone Wildcats goal as they dropped to 0-10 in the series.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Last week’s highlights: In the season-opening Red Dragon Invitational, Penn College dropped its first three matches before topping first-time foe Baruch College. Freshmen Nashalie Vailiz, of New Holland, and Lilly Stockum, of Dauphin, established themselves early as Vailiz totaled 42 digs, including 17 against Baruch, and Stockum had 25 kills, with 11 coming against Baruch.
