College to host event focused on manufacturing talent solutions

Monday, June 30, 2025

In an effort to help regional manufacturers find practical solutions to central Pennsylvania’s manufacturing skills gap, Pennsylvania College of Technology and Advance Central PA will host a daylong event for manufacturing leaders.

The Manufacturing Talent Solutions Roundtable is scheduled for July 24, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

During the roundtable, the Center for Rural Pennsylvania will discuss key population trends influencing the state’s workforce. Participants will also discover strategies to build a sustainable talent pipeline and learn about grant funding opportunities for workforce development through MIDAS+ (Modular, Industry-Driven Apprenticeship Strategies), pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship program benefits and pre-employment training opportunities.

“Central Pennsylvania's manufacturing sector is a significant contributor to our regional economy. We continually hear from manufacturers about the challenges the skills gap presents in hiring the workforce needed to maintain operations,” said Sara R. Ousby, director of workforce training programs. “This roundtable brings together the collective expertise of industry leaders, workforce development professionals, and funding organizations to create real, implementable solutions. We’re excited to partner with Advance Central PA on this initiative and learn from manufacturers what tools and training they need to build a stronger, more skilled workforce for the future.”

MIDAS+ is a Penn College Workforce Development program, funded by a $4 million U.S. Department of Labor Apprenticeship Building America grant, that expands the college’s advanced manufacturing apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship offerings. The college is a national, comprehensive provider of apprenticeship programs, which help companies train existing workers to fill skill gaps.
