The initial peer mentors are Hayden D. Lester, of Jersey Shore, business management; Savannah J. Zook, of Lewistown, human services & restorative justice; and Adam C. Moyer, of Kutztown, heating, ventilation & air conditioning technology. The trio has been working on such projects as outreach and marketing, developing a student survey, and receiving training to support students in need.
The primary objective of the program is to enhance the overall student experience by using peer mentors to promote academic and personal development. Any Penn College student has the opportunity to get advice and support from one of the peer mentors in the center. Mentors are trained in study skills and strategies, navigating social situations, getting involved on campus, and other topics.
Students can schedule a meeting with a peer mentor through this link or by visiting the Center for Academic Excellence (Room 1049, Davie Jane Gilmour Center).
Individuals interested in applying to be a peer mentor next semester or who have questions about the program can contact Melissa M. Stocum, coordinator of peer mentoring, by email.
