Penn College students were among those attending a practice session for an event that celebrates talent and sees teams of Isuzu technicians test their skills on the global stage.

Diesel students from Brad R. Conklin's Basic Electricity and Heavy Duty Brake Systems courses went to Isuzu Commercial Truck of America Inc. in Pittston on Thursday to observe a mock technician competition.

Comprised of the top Isuzu technicians in the United States, the team will travel to Japan next month to compete against entries from 33 other countries to determine the best Isuzu technician team in the world.

"I think the students noticed the teamwork and communication the technicians have to have in order to complete the competition," said Conklin, instructor of diesel equipment technology.

Penn College students were among roughly 150 on hand, and the visit was noted on Isuzu's Facebook page:

"Local diesel programs were invited to witness Anthony Parrilli and Sebastian Fitzgerald complete two practice sessions as part of their training to prepare for the World I-1 Grand Prix competition, which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Japan," the post read.

"We also held a job fair event and had local dealers attend to promote their business and opportunities to new technicians who will soon enter the industry to start their careers. Good luck to Team USA and thanks to all who attended!"
