The New Choices/New Options program, a free career-development workshop at Pennsylvania College of Technology, will offer a new session beginning Oct. 1.
The workshop will meet Monday through Thursday each week from Oct. 1-23 on Penn College's main campus in Williamsport.
New Choices/New Options is provided at no cost to displaced homemakers, single pregnant women, underemployed individuals, individuals seeking high-wage/high-skill careers in fields that are nontraditional for their gender, and single parents with full or joint custody of dependents. Eligibility guidelines apply. Child-care and transportation assistance may be available.
The ultimate goal of the programming is to help people find employment in careers that provide self-sufficiency wages. Many of those attending the workshops move into further training before finding jobs. Others will utilize the job-search skills taught in the workshops to seek employment.
The free classes guide participants through career assessments to identify their career goals. Training is offered for computer skills, resume-writing and interview preparation. Special life skills needed for success on the job are also addressed, including coping with stress, communication skills and more.
