Q&A with Jeff

WHEN DID YOU FIRST FALL IN LOVE WITH HVAC?

During the spring semester of my freshman year at Penn College. That’s when I decided to enroll in the bachelor's program in lieu of the associate's program. I knew the HVAC industry was where I wanted to be!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR FIELD?

One of the things I like best about the HVAC field is how it effects people’s lives. Heating and cooling are very important in the world. When it’s hot in the summer, you want to turn your air conditioning on. When it’s winter, you want to turn your heat on.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE PENN COLLEGE?

I enrolled at Penn College due to the hands-on learning environment and small class sizes. The combination of classroom theory along with hands-on lab work is a formula for success. It was just the right fit for someone like me who had been out of a formal classroom setting for several years.

WHAT IS SOMETHING FASCINATING YOU LEARNED?

I learned how important networking is in order to achieve success! Penn College provided exposure to employers and career opportunities that I would have never experienced or encountered on my own. I also gained a great appreciation for courses such as interpersonal communication and technical writing. These courses have paid dividends in my professional career since leaving Penn College.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FIND A COLLEGE THAT WILL CHALLENGE YOU AND INSPIRE YOU TO GROW?

Today’s industries and job markets are very competitive, everyone is always looking for that extra edge to separate them from others. Enrolling in a college that challenges and inspires you to grow will help provide that extra edge to differentiate you from other candidates.

IF SOMEONE WERE INTERESTED IN PENN COLLEGE, WHAT MIGHT YOU TELL THEM?

Three simple words: Degrees That Work. I had accepted a full-time engineering position during my sophomore year at Penn College. This gave me the opportunity to fully focus on my education without the stress of wondering where I was going to work after graduation. I met that employer through the Penn College network, and I still work for the same employer today!

Careers

"Don't have tunnel vision when thinking about what type of job you're going to get. There are so many different markets and industries that spiral off of HVAC. I'm an example of that."
