Leading the Way: Q&A with Emma

HOW DOES THE WORLD OF HOSPITALITY INSPIRE YOU?

The world of hospitality inspires me like a great story—where food, drink, and ambiance come together to create an unforgettable experience. At the same time, it’s a fast paced, dynamic environment where every detail shapes the workflow and team coordination.

HOW DID YOU KNOW PENN COLLEGE WAS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR YOU?

I knew Penn College was the right fit as soon as I got to dive straight into hands-on lab work. Even when the hours got long and assignments piled up, the culinary program felt like one big family. Knowing everyone had each other's back proved that this was the environment where I’d grow the most.

HOW IS PENN COLLEGE HELPING YOU DESIGN THE CAREER OF YOUR DREAMS?

Penn College is helping me design my dream career by immersing me in diverse, real-world environments where I can discover what truly drives me. Through the program, I’ve had the opportunity to work the Kentucky Derby for two consecutive years. I even traveled to Italy, which completely expanded my perspective on food and service. These opportunities taught me that I thrive on movement and fast-paced energy. I don't want to sit still; I want to continue traveling, working major events, and refining my skills across the global hospitality landscape.

WHAT DOES SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT MEAN TO YOU?

Receiving a scholarship isn’t just financial aid to help me reach my goals—it is a signal that someone believes in my drive, vision, and work ethic. This support motivates me to keep pushing my boundaries while providing the relief needed to take full advantage of travel programs and hands on opportunities. Ultimately, it allows me to spend less time worrying about finances and more time developing my skills.
