Q&A with Sterling Helicopter
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU SERVE?
What excites me most about the helicopter industry is the variety of operations we get to support. From law enforcement to private owners and corporate VIPs, every helicopter we work on serves a unique mission, and it’s rewarding knowing our work helps keep them flying safely.
WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COMPANY'S CULTURE/MISSION?
What I appreciate most about our company’s culture is how close-knit and supportive our team is. Being a smaller repair station means everyone is hands-on, and there’s a real sense of pride in the work we do. There’s a shared commitment to safety and quality that drives us every day.
HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?
Our general manager is a graduate.
WHY DO YOU BELIEVE PENN COLLEGE IS A SOUND INVESTMENT? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RETURN?
We believe Penn College is a sound investment because its students come to us well-trained, with a solid foundation in aviation mechanics. Over the years, we’ve seen the return firsthand — through our internship program and by hiring graduates who are ready to step into the field. We know they’ve had proper training and guidance, which makes our job easier and strengthens our team.
WHAT QUALITITES DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN RECRUITING PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI?
I really value the enthusiasm and drive Penn College students bring. Their passion for the industry stands out, and it’s clear they’re eager to learn and grow. I love visiting campus to share what Sterling has to offer because it’s great connecting with students who are genuinely excited about starting their careers.
