Q&A with Radius Systems, LLC

WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU SERVE?

The BAS industry is one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide. It involves a unique mix of computer hardware and software, integration and communications with a multitude of building systems, graphical interfaces, many wonderful elements of mechanical engineering (heat transfer, thermodynamics, controls, fluid dynamics, instrumentation, psychometrics, etc.), energy measurement and optimization, and much more. It is one of the most technically diverse and interesting professions available to you, is constantly evolving, and provides endless opportunities for mental and professional growth.

WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COMPANY'S CULTURE/MISSION?

We are focused on doing the right things always for our customers, which makes our employees feel great about helping people and our customers feel great when they realize that we are truly committed to what is best for them. We also tell every employee the day they start that what happens next is entirely up to them: We will facilitate their growth in every way, but the effort they put in and their ability to learn are what will drive their success. This creates a culture of achievement.

HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?

We are fully committed to the idea of growing our workforce from the ground up. Penn College was the perfect place to start via the building automation program, as it does an outstanding job of teaching both the theory and hands-on, practical elements of our industry. The results have been great: A significant number of our employees are PCT graduates, who continue to grow into higher levels of responsibility throughout our business.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE PENN COLLEGE IS A SOUND INVESTMENT?

The results speak for themselves. The students we've hired have consistently risen through the ranks of our company and have been an absolute essential part of allowing us to grow very rapidly as a business.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN RECRUITING PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI?

Knowledge they've gained in school; ability to work well with others; curiosity; drive and ambition.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING PENN COLLEGE?

Do it. The BAS industry is growing exponentially, there are more jobs than people to fill them, and it is a technology-driven industry that will continue to expand and grow. Forty years from now you will be thrilled that you made the decision.
