Program

The Physical Therapist Assistant program in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences at Pennsylvania College of Technology conducts the pro bono (free) Physical Therapy Clinic during the school year, typically from the end of August through April. The Clinic will open for patient care at the end of August.

Physical therapy visits are by appointment only and we are actively taking appointments.

Services Available

The PT Clinic provides physical therapy services to individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or have financial barriers to receiving physical therapy.  Patients will be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist (PT), which includes a thorough examination, evaluation, and goals assessment to develop an individualized plan of care. Follow-up visits will be provided by student physical therapist assistants (PTAs) under the direct supervision of a licensed PT or PTA.

Treatments may include:

  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Stretching and range of motion
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Gait (walking) training
  • Posture education
  • Modalities (hot/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound)
  • Relaxation exercises
  • Pain management education
  • Functional training
  • Home exercise programs

Staff

Staffed by licensed PTs and PTAs, the PT Clinic provides experiential learning opportunities for Penn College PTA students while providing free physical therapy services to the community. The PT Clinic allows students to select and perform therapeutic interventions, refine communication skills, and participate in the operation of a clinical setting while closely supervised and mentored by experienced professionals.

Scheduling

To schedule an appointment or inquire about services, call 570-320-4439 or email ptclinic@pct.edu. A doctor’s referral (prescription) is required and must be brought to the first appointment to receive physical therapy services.

There is no application fee or cost for physical therapy services. The Physical Therapy Clinic does not bill insurance. Community participants must be uninsured, have a financial barrier to receiving care (high copay), or have exceeded their allotment of physical therapy visits as designated by their healthcare provider to receive treatment. We are unable to treat any individuals under active litigation or injuries covered by Workers' Compensation.
