Students from Penn College's School of Business & Hospitality were among the judges for Saturday's Grill-Off at the Young Men's Republican Club, which remains strong and active in the community 140 years after its founding. The annual event is just one of several hosted by the club to raise money for charitable organizations, outreach programs and college scholarships.

Wine Spectator magazine recently released its annual Restaurant Wine List Awards program, again naming Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant among the “Best of Award of Excellence” recipients. The restaurant is one of 850 worldwide to earn the magazine’s second-tier “Best of” award.

Two students in the School of Hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology were selected by faculty to receive the school’s “Award of Excellence,” which included an educational trip to the National Restaurant Association’s NRA Show 2013. The School of Hospitality’s second Culinary and Pastry Experience, held Friday in the Thompson Professional Development Center, featured the work of Pennsylvania College of Technology students in five classes – some offering free samples.

Winners were named in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s annual cake competition, sponsored by CalJava International. First place among the 11 competitors was awarded to Ching Chan, a first-year student in the college’s baking and pastry arts major, for a cake that featured intricate hand piping.

Thirty-nine Pennsylvania College of Technology students, accompanied by two instructors, will travel to Louisville, Ky., to help prepare food for the thousands who will attend the 139th running of the storied Kentucky Derby.
