An alumna, touted by a Los Angeles publication as one of that city’s top chefs, will be the next Visiting Chef at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Free tasting samples, made with ingredients available on-site, will be cooked and served at the Williamsport Growers Market on Oct. 26 by students in culinary arts and hospitality management majors at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The students are enrolled in a Catering course taught by Chef Michael J. Ditchfield, instructor of hospitality management/culinary arts.

Students and faculty from Pennsylvania College of Technology’s baking, pastry and culinary arts majors recently lent their skills to a dinner that raised funds for the Centre County Child Access Center in Bellefonte. Michelle Mierwald established Sweet Heat Gourmet to help fulfill her passion for fresh, local foods. Sauces, salsas, and other products use ingredients purchased from farmers in Mierwald's area.

Students from Penn College's School of Business & Hospitality were among the judges for Saturday's Grill-Off at the Young Men's Republican Club, which remains strong and active in the community 140 years after its founding. The annual event is just one of several hosted by the club to raise money for charitable organizations, outreach programs and college scholarships.

Wine Spectator magazine recently released its annual Restaurant Wine List Awards program, again naming Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant among the “Best of Award of Excellence” recipients. The restaurant is one of 850 worldwide to earn the magazine’s second-tier “Best of” award.

The latest addition to Penn College's YouTube channel spotlights encouragement of young women to enter the lucrative STEM career sector with the SMART Girls program (Science & Math Applications in Real-World Technologies). Through diverse, hands-on workshops, the initiative introduces high-school girls to exciting technical careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
