Presidential Committee Appointed to Oversee ‘Centennial Colloquia'

Faculty and staff have until Oct. 21 to submit proposed presentations for “Technology and Society: The Centennial Colloquia Series,” a component of Penn College’s 100-year anniversary celebration in 2014.
At the invitation of President Davie Jane Gilmour, the Centennial Colloquia Committee – comprising a student, alumni, retirees, faculty and staff – accepted responsibility for designing the series. Its members will review proposals, identify presenters, and collaborate in the promotion and organization of the events.
Committee members are Thomas E. Ask, professor of industrial and human factors design; Daniel J. Doyle, emeritus professor of history; Laura Lee Janssen, Williamsport Sun-Gazette news editor and a 1982 journalism graduate of Williamsport Area Community College; Elaine J. Lambert, director of College Information and Community Relations and a 1979 journalism graduate of WACC; Timothy J. Mallery, assistant director of residence life; Patrick Murphy, who retired in 2009-10 as an associate professor of advertising art; Veronica M. Muzic, special assistant to the president for academic affairs; Mark D. Noe, professor of English-composition; Yazmin E. Strauss, a business administration: marketing concentration major, 2011 mass media communication graduate and student marketing assistant in CICR; and Richard J. Weilminster, who retired in 2006 as a horticulture professor.
The retired faculty members have all been honored with the college’s Master Teacher Award, since renamed in tribute to Muzic, who was its first recipient in 1982. Doyle was selected in 1984, Weilminster in 1986 and Murphy in 1989.
They will evaluate faculty/staff submissions according to criteria distributed campuswide. Those guidelines include the purpose, scope and format of the presentations; the responsibilities of the presenters; the college’s commitment (financial and otherwise); and a tentative schedule for throughout the centennial year.
