The Emergency Medical Technician is described in the National EMS Scope of Practice as basic emergency care and transportation for critical and emergency patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual will possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. They perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. They are a link from the scene to the emergency health system. This course will meet the National EMS Education Standards and Instructional Guidelines for Emergency Medical Technician and prepare the participant for National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations at the EMT level. Total instruction time: 50 hours of video-based lecture plus 100 hours of practical sessions.
