EQT Foundation continues support for career awareness

The EQT Foundation – the philanthropic extension of EQT Corp., the nation’s largest producer of natural gas – is providing a second year of support to help Pennsylvania College of Technology address the national skills shortage and overcome the misconception of “dirty jobs” in technical fields.
The foundation’s $20,000 Parents as Partners in Applied Technology Education grant will help familiarize parents of secondary-school-age students with the importance – and availability – of an applied technology education. It promotes awareness of career opportunities by inviting parents to campus and providing them with resources to enhance their children’s education and career-exploration activities.
In the program, parents meet with faculty, students, local industry partners and alumni of the college, gaining a better understanding of the diverse career opportunities available in hands-on, technical fields. Children of parents who successfully complete the program become eligible for a Penn College scholarship.
“We are grateful to EQT for its continued support of this innovative program that will allow the college to extend its reach into the community – inspiring the next generation of ‘tomorrow makers,’” said Loni N. Kline, vice president for college relations and chief philanthropy officer. “This investment by EQT speaks to the foundation’s belief in the power of an applied technology education and the value of a Penn College degree.”
“We have been so impressed with the work Penn College has done in the community to promote careers and fields of study related to the energy industry,” said Ellen Rossi, president, EQT Foundation. “The need for a skilled workforce now and in the future is of the utmost importance to our industry. Having programs like this that allow parents, as well as the students, to explore potential opportunities in well-paying jobs, truly makes a difference.”
