Phillies execs go to bat for management majors during ballpark visit
Attending were Janaya B. Bartholomew, of Williamsport; Lacey Potter, of Philipsburg; Chrissy L. Rhinehart, of Allenwood; and Laura E. Smith, of New Oxford. They were accompanied by faculty members Chip D. Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration/management, and Tammy M. Rich, assistant professor of business administration/management/event management.
The event is part of the Philadelphia Phillies #CollegeSeries, designed for college students and recent grads to find out what it’s like to work for a major league baseball team. Sept. 10 was Sport & Facility Management Night and provided the opportunity to speak with the organization’s general manager of facilities, special events manager, manager for event operations and staffing, and the division manager for Aramark at the park.
The students attended a networking session that was followed by a panel discussion, where the topics centered on a day in the life of a sports manager and what students can do to prepare for their careers.
Highlights included a photo with 1993 National League Champion Phillie and Club Ambassador Mickey Morandini, an opportunity to hold the team’s latest World Series Ring, a visit from shortstop Brad Miller, and seats for the evening’s Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves game.
