Nursing alumna receives Mentorship Award
The award was bestowed upon Reed by Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour during the Summer 2019 commencement ceremony, held Aug. 10 at the Community Arts Center.
Reed earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing from Penn College in 2007 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Phoenix in 2014 and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in leadership and health care administration from Grand Canyon University in 2018.
She has been employed in a variety of nursing and leadership roles at UPMC Susquehanna, formerly Susquehanna Health since 2003, having started her career as a staff nurse extender.
Reed has received a number of professional accolades from her employer, including three ACE (Above Clinical Excellence) Awards and a Servant Leader Award.
Her professional affiliations include the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders and American Nurses Association.
Serving on the Penn College Nursing Advisory Committee since 2015, she is helping to motivate and inspire a new generation of nursing students.
Of her time at Penn College, Reed said, “The classroom and clinical instructors did more than prepare and educate me – they inspired and motivated me. They made me think outside of the box, helping mold me into the nurse leader I am today.”
The Mentorship Award recognizes alumni, individuals or businesses who have made significant or ongoing contributions to the education and development of Penn College by providing mentorship opportunities or professional guidance. For more, visit the Alumni Relations webpage.
Reed resides in Muncy with her husband, Sean, and their two children, Cullen and Madelyn. She is the daughter of James and Halle Niklaus, of South Williamsport.
