Two new Penn College alumni, a returning student and a recent high school graduate who simultaneously enrolled in college courses last year were among medalists at the 44th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference held June 23-28 in Kansas City, Mo.

Williamsport Technical Institute alumni gather for a group photo in the SASC presentation room About 180 people – including 110 Williamsport Technical Institute alumni – visited campus Friday during the eighth annual reunion for graduates of Penn College's earliest predecessor. Besides reuniting with friends and former classmates, W.T.I. alumni toured the Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood and heard about the college's Stage X building program from Barry R. Stiger, vice president of institutional advancement.

A Tioga County mason and Penn College graduate whose dry-stone loop impressively marks the gateway to the Schneebeli Earth Science Center has joined with students to craft another rustic addition to the Allenwood-area campus. James A. Asbury, owner-operator of
Mountaineer Stone  in Mansfield, worked with nearly 50 horticulture and masonry students and faculty to build “Transition Bridge” over the course of several lab periods during the spring semester. Like all of Asbury’s work – including his circular “ Tribute to Knowledge ” near the campus’s entrance – the bridge uses stone culled from the immediate vicinity of the worksite and absolutely no mortar.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Penn College celebrates its 20th graduating class this summer. In honor of this landmark, the program, in concert with Alumni Relations and Workforce Development & Continuing Education, sponsored a full day of educational and social events for alumni on May 30.

Penn College’s Dental Hygiene Program raised $4,000 for a recent graduate who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Mindy J. Crawford, who earned an associate degree in dental hygiene in 2004, was diagnosed with having at least three anaplastic astrocytomas (tumors) in her brain, all inoperable because of their locations.
