Activist to Speak on Sexual Health, Violence Prevention
Tuesday, February 14, 2017
YouTube activist Laci Green will discuss sexual health and the prevention of sexual violence during a March 1 presentation in Lycoming College's Keiper Recreation Center. The 7:30 p.m. program is free and open to Penn College students, faculty and staff with a valid student ID. Green will share an in-depth look at our culture’s attitudes and responses to sexual violence, noting that one in four female students and one in six male students are sexually violated while earning their degree. The statistics for other marginalized groups are even more grim. Using pop-culture examples, videos and discussion questions, she will illuminate the problem and help bring it to a halt. Her presentation is geared to a mature audience. The Oakland, Calif.-based speaker hosts an online sex education show called “Sex Plus” on YouTube that reaches 5 million young adults every month and is viewed in all 196 countries. She has worked with more than 100 universities, conferences, military groups and government offices on sexual health and sexual violence prevention efforts. She is also the host and writer of MTV Braless and produces an educational series for Planned Parenthood. Green graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and holds a certificate in rape and dating violence crisis counseling.
