Penn College Freshmen Bring National FBLA Ranking

Two freshmen students at Pennsylvania College of Technology capped their high-school careers in impressive fashion. They earned a second-place showing at the 2016 Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Atlanta.
Joseph C. Lusk, of Linden, and Austin J. Way, of Jersey Shore, were part of a three-person team from Jersey Shore Area Senior High School in FBLA’s network design competition, one of 65 business-related events.
Following a written exam on networking and security concepts, the team had to devise a networking plan for a business in 20 minutes. The competition required all team members to present to judges and answer questions regarding the feasibility of their plan.
During the spring, the Jersey Shore team placed first in the state FBLA competition to advance to nationals.
Lusk is seeking a bachelor’s degree in information technology: network specialist concentration, and Way is enrolled in the electronics technology program.
“We are proud of the accomplishments of Joseph and Austin,” said David R. Cotner, dean of Penn College’s School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies. “Succeeding at a prestigious event like the FBLA nationals shows a level of dedication and commitment that should serve them well as Penn College students. We are happy they decided to continue their education with us.”
While students at Jersey Shore, Lusk and Way took courses through Penn College NOW, a tuition-free, nationally accredited dual-enrollment program that features Penn College classes taught by approved teachers in students’ home high school or career and technology center. Upon successful completion of courses, students can apply the credits at Penn College or transfer them to a different institution.
