Two popular fall events at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been merged into a singular Homecoming & Family Weekend, to be held this year from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

The college traditionally held Parent & Family Weekend in late September, followed by Homecoming a few weeks later.

“We knew there was overlap,” explained Kimberly R. Cassel, the college’s director of alumni relations. “People coming for Parent & Family Weekend were also alumni, and graduates coming to Homecoming obviously were parents. Some were coming to both, which was just too much for their schedule.”

So beginning this year, a full slate of activities will allow for three consolidated days of interaction among alumni, current students and families. While many of the events are intended solely for those groups, some are open to the public:

  • A carnival will be held on the Madigan Library lawn from 6 p.m. to close on Friday, 1 p.m. to close on Saturday (Community Day) and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. A $2-off wristband coupon, valid for up to four family members, will be printed in the Webb Weekly. A comedy/drumming act, rePercussion, will perform on the midway at 8 p.m. Saturday.

  • Take Ten,” a 10th-anniversary celebration of The Gallery at Penn College, features new work by 25 past exhibiting artists. Hours for the free exhibition, on the third floor of Madigan Library, are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Among the other offerings for the weekend are dessert receptions to showcase each of the college’s six academic schools; Saturday and Sunday soccer matches, with family-friendly activities on the sidelines; the Athletic Hall of Fame induction and banquet; an alumni golf outing; guided tours of campus and historic Williamsport; a tailgating lunch with President Davie Jane Gilmour; and an Oktoberfest – including a reunion of former student ambassadors, Student Government Association members and Connections Links (orientation leaders) – for all alumni over age 21.

A full schedule of events, as well as registration information, is available online.
