The ceramic artwork of Pennsylvania College of Technology student Jamie L. Mahoney is on display in the lobby of The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of the Madigan Library. Mahoney’s exhibit opened April 11 and will continue through May 9.

Graphic design student Jamie L. Mahoney’s works are on display in the lobby of The Gallery at Penn College through May 9.Mahoney, of Williamsport, is a junior majoring in graphic design with a minor in marketing. She has taken three Penn College ceramics classes with David A. Stabley, instructor of ceramics and wood sculpture. Her current focus is on large, decorative forms with porcelain. She concentrates on low-relief carving in clay and then decorates her surfaces with glazes, stains and a wax-based patina.

Mahoney’s exhibit coincides with another ceramics exhibit in The Gallery at Penn College: “Neverwhere and Nowhere,” showcasing works by Chicago-born artist Tammie Rubin, and with “Design: 2014,” the annual exhibition of portfolio work by seniors in the graphic design major. Rubin’s exhibit runs through May 4. The gallery will be closed May 5-8 in preparation for the opening reception for “Design: 2014,” set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 9.

On May 10, Mahoney will move her work to the nearby Pajama Factory for its “Mayfest” open house, running 2 to 10 p.m. that day. Her ceramics will be displayed in Studio 20 on the second floor of the artists’ complex located at 1307 Park Ave., Williamsport.

The artist's work includes this decorative vase ...... and lampshade.Mahoney has a home-based studio, Stone Root Studio, and also performs freelance graphic design work. After receiving her Penn College degree, she plans to earn a master’s degree in art administration from Drexel University and continue exploring her ceramics artwork.

The Gallery at Penn College is open 1-4 p.m. Sundays, 2-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
