It is time for the annual "Bridging the Gap" paper bridge competition, in which contestants are challenged to build a lightweight (yet weight-bearing) bridge solely from construction paper and glue.  Required for students in the Structural Principles architectural technology class, the contest is also open to all students and employees. Bridges are due this Thursday in the second-floor hallway of the Hager Lifelong Education Center. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and vote for their favorite bridge from March 21-26 (including Open House on Saturday, March 23). Testing will begin at 3:30 p.m. March 26 in LEC, Room B2014 (enter through Room B2017).  The current record for the strongest bridge is held by Kirstie Moir and Jerry Stotler, set in 2002, for a bridge that carried 579 times its weight.
