Waste Management Inc. has renewed its commitment to two Pennsylvania College of Technology initiatives through another $10,000 donation under the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit program.

Waste Management recently presented a check to the Penn College Foundation, which is designated as an educational improvement organization under the EITC program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

The contribution, identical to one delivered when the designation was first approved last fall, was made in support of SMART Girls and Penn College NOW – both managed by the college’s Outreach for K-12 Office and recognized as “innovative educational programs” under the tax-credit law.

Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation, left, accepts a $10,000 donation from John Hambrose, of Waste Management Inc.“Education is the key to our future, and Waste Management is proud to support the SMART Girls and Penn College NOW programs,” said John Hambrose, the company’s regional spokesman. “These are exceptional programs that are opening the doors to successful careers and fulfilling lives for these children.”

SMART (Science and Math Applications in Real-World Technologies) Girls provides semiannual hands-on opportunities to experience math and science as a foundation for technological employment, aiming to encourage young women to consider such careers.

Penn College NOW allows students to earn college credits through courses taught by approved teachers in the students' home high schools or at career and technology centers. Twenty-four schools around the state participate in the college’s dual-enrollment program.

Waste Management Inc. partners with its customers and communities to manage and reduce waste from collection to disposal, while recovering valuable resources and creating clean, renewable energy.
