Southland IndustriesA senior in Penn College's four-year building automation technology major is part of a short video that Southland Industries is using to promote its internship program. Clayton J. Bretz, of New Bloomfield, enrolled in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology concentration, is one of 14 Penn College interns to participate in Southland's program over the past four years from that major alone. The three-minute video was shared with PCToday by Todd S. Woodling, an instructor of building automation technology/HVAC electrical, and his colleagues in the School of Construction and Design Technologies, and is linked here with the company's permission. Michael Phillips, a senior controls engineer/controls leader at Southland, said four of those placements resulted in full-time employment upon graduation. "We have extended offers to several others," he said. "They have been some of the best technicians and field engineers I have seen in the industry." Southland also has interned and hired from other Penn College majors, including computer aided drafting, HVAC and construction management, Phillips added.
