Penn College to Offer Secure Wireless Network

Friday, May 16, 2008

Beginning July 1, Information Technology Services is implementing a secure wireless network across campus to replace the current unsecure Wildcat network. The primary reason for the change is to protect the data being exchanged over wireless connections. The secure network also restricts access to authorized users so that ITS can better protect Pennsylvania College of Technology's electronic resources. Authorized users include employees, students and guests of the college.

The new secure wireless network will be called wildcats, and will become available in various areas across campus starting today; a second announcement will be issued when the secure network has been fully deployed. The existing network, called wildcat, will remain accessible until July 1.

Instructions for configuring wireless computers to access the new network are located on the ITS department site of the portal. Choose the appropriate set of instructions for your computer's operating system:

The instructions also are availableonline.

If you have any problems connecting to the secure network and are faculty or staff, please contact the ITS Help Desk (ext. 7329 or by e-mail ) for assistance. If you have any problems connecting to the secure network and are a student, please contact the Student Help Desk (ext. 7154 or by e-mail ) for assistance. Also, those with college-issued PDAs are asked to contact the Help Desk to have these wireless devices reconfigured for the new network.

ITS thanks you for your cooperation during this transition.
