PGA Tour member J.J. Henry will be the visiting pro at the 20th Annual Golf Classic, to be hosted by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation on May 8 at the Williamsport Country Club.Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship. This endowed fund has grown to be the single-largest source of nongovernment-funded scholarship support awarded to Penn College students.
Proceeds from the tournament have provided more than $219,000 in scholarship awards to students since 1990. The tournament itself has raised a total of $658,000.
Henry, 31, a Fairfield, Conn., native who now resides in Fort Worth, Texas, turned pro in 1998. He finished tied for second place at the 2006 FBR Open (formerly the Phoenix Open), and has finished in the Top-125 money list on the PGA tour in each of the past five years. In 2005, Henry entered 32 PGA tournaments, finishing in the money 20 times and logging four Top 10 finishes. He ranks 44th on the money list for 2006 with a total of $634,505 in tournament winnings.
At this year's FBR Open, Henry shot a second-round score of 61 one stroke off the tournament record. He has also finished second at two other PGA Tour events: the Kemper Insurance Open and the Texas Open at LaCantera, both in 2001. In 2000, he won the BUY.COM Knoxville Open on the Nationwide Tour. At Texas Christian University in 1998, Henry was the Golfweek/Taylor Made Co-College Player of the Year, a member of the Palmer Cup Team, the runner-up at the NCAA Championship and a First Team All-American selection.
