Last spring, Siemens Building Technologies Inc. delivered its Apogee building-control system for use by students in the Building Automation Technology bachelor-degree major, which graduated its first class of 11 students in May 2004.

Penn College alumni and Siemens employees Eli R. Hager, Glenside; Shawn Bateman, Philadelphia; and Chris C. Randall of Jacksonville, Fla. all of whom graduated with degrees in HVAC Technology attended the dedication.

Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour, Penn College president, said the equipment will give students a "giant edge in the job market." She noted she is particularly pleased with the success of the alumni who attended the open house, and grateful for their continued involvement with the College and its students.

"I'm very proud of what Siemens has been able to do with the College, but I look forward to seeing it expand," said Larry Tietjen, operations manager at Siemens' Philadelphia office. The donation represents continuation of a seven-year partnership, which has grown substantially from on-campus job recruiting and student visits to Siemens facilities.

The lab is located in the Carl Building Technologies Center on the College's main campus in Williamsport.

Tietjen urged Penn College officials to stay in touch to learn more about the equipment and how it is used in the "real world."
