'Walk of Names' Will Be Part of New Campus Entrance

When Pennsylvania College of Technology opens its new Main Campus entrance next fall, the names of many men and women who have been associated with the College during its 85-year history will become part of the entrance walkway.
The Penn College Office of Alumni Relations is making it possible for alumni and friends of the College and its forerunners to purchase bricks engraved with personal messages to be placed in the new entrance onto campus from Williamsport's Maynard Street.
Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour, president, said the project is one of many intended to "look to the future through the past," as the College celebrates its "Diamond 10" anniversary year in 1998-99.
"For the past 85 years, alumni, employees and friends of Williamsport Technical Institute, Williamsport Area Community College and Pennsylvania College of Technology have been building this institution," she said. "The contributions of all have positioned Penn College as Pennsylvania's premier technical institute. Now, through the permanent installation of these bricks, our alumni and friends also have the opportunity to become a part of our future."
Engraved bricks of 4by 8 inches or 8by 8 inches are being made available. Cost is $75 for the smaller brick and $150 for the larger version. Individuals may choose inscriptions to record their own name, memorialize or honor another individual, pay tribute to a special group, or commemorate a personal milestone. All orders must be received no later than April 1 for the initial installation. Each year, new bricks will be added after May commencement ceremonies.
