As a new academic year begins on campuses across the country, safety and security are on the minds of administrators, faculty, parents, students and the public. Last year's tragic events at Virginia Tech were a harsh reminder of potential dangers on college campuses and in all public places.

A relationship between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Williamsport Parking Authority that started with a student project has grown to include a new scholarship fund at the college. The Williamsport Parking Authority Board of Directors recently approved the creation of the Williamsport Parking Authority Scholarship fund at Penn College.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality will host "A Farewell Tribute to Peter Hellermann," longtime general manager of the school's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, on Sept. 10. Frederick Frank, president of the award-winning Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars, will be the guest vintner in a fitting tribute to Hellermann as he retires.

As part of training and teamwork, Pennsylvania College of Technology Residence Lifejoined with Wise Options in an experiential-learning scenario that benefited both returning Resident Assistants and the community. Alumni andguests are invited to join Penn College culinary faculty member (and "You're the Chef" co-host) Chef Paul Mach on a bus trip to the Seneca Lake wineries on Sept. 8. The first stop is a group tasting at Standing Stone Vineyards, then it's off to the Wagner Vineyards to enjoy boxed lunches and the beautiful view, tour the winery or brewery, and browse the gift shop.

Continuing a historic investment in the students who ultimately will bolster the workforce at its dealerships, Caterpillar Inc. recently donated a used track-type tractor to Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management.

Pennsylvania College of Technology, a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University, recently presented awards to its August 2007 graduates. The awards, the students and their academic majors are: President's Award, presented for leadership and service to the college: Jared Frederick Finck, Sparta, N.J., physician assistant.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented a Distinguished Alumnus Award to Robert L. Pierce and a Mentorship Award to Mark Porter. The awards were presented duringSaturday's Summer Commencement ceremony at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.
