Meet the newest members of the Penn College community, welcomed Thursday morning during the official kickoff of the Fall 2005 semester.

(The following is drawn from remarks by Davie Jane Gilmour, Pennsylvania College of Technology president, during an Aug. 18 all-college meeting to open the Fall 2005 semester.) The theme for Fall Orientation is "Right Where You Belong." I think it is a fitting theme for our start of a new academic year.

Among the newest faces of the Penn College community are these faculty/staff members assembled during orientation outside the Professional Development Center on Wednesday morning.

PCTV, Penn College's on-campus video information channel, formerly located on channel 80, is now seen on channel 78. Previously, channel 80 had been a vacant channel for Williamsport area cable provider, SusCom. Over the summer, SusCom began using the channel for high-definition programming, which necessitated the switch on the campus cable distribution system.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship toward his Fall 2005 studies abroad. Jason A. Biggans of Bellefonte, a business administration-management information systems major, was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Drop/Add and Late Registration were held Monday in the Student and Administrative Services Center. During those periods, academic school offices were on hand in the Student and Administrative Services Center to answer questions from registered students processing schedule changes via the Web.

Mail and Document Services has installed employee ID card-scanning devices on several copiers across campus. Employees can swipe their ID cards at these copiers rather than using department PINs. Unlike department PINs, which are only recognized by one or two copiers, employee ID cards are recognized at any copier equipped with the new scanning device.
