Pennsylvania College of Technology has decided to construct a contemporary building that suits its specific needs rather than renovate the existing structure at the former BiLo property on West Fourth Street in Williamsport. The college administration has determined it will be more cost-effective in the long run to build a one-story, 27,500- to 30,000-square-foot structure at the 1127 W.
In another example of Penn College students giving back to their community, the Horticulture Technicians Association and PennDOT worked together Thursday to beautify the Interstate 180/Maynard Street interchange area. Student members of the club and lead horticulture professor/club adviser Richard J. Weilminster are planting 2,000 daffodil bulbs along the highway's on- and off-ramps.
The American Red Cross was pleased with the turnout for Wednesday's Bloodmobile at the Bush Campus Center, where a total of 137 individuals registered to give blood and 122 pints were collected. There were41 first-time donors and, although the goal was not met, every pint collected goes to saving another life.
Penn College student Jessica S. Wade, 20, of Watsontown, a freshman majoring in advertising art, died Saturday, Oct. 22, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 24. Any students wishing to discuss their feelings with a counselor may contact CounselingServices at ext. 4765.
The Gallery at Penn College on the main campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology will host "Visions and Imaginings," a collection of landscape paintings by Victoria Veedell, from Nov. 8 to Dec. 9. An opening reception will take place Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. After the opening, viewing hours for the show will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m., or by appointment.
An International Truck dealership is helping diesel students at Pennsylvania College of Technology keep pace with the latest technology. Five Star International LLC recently provided Penn College with a 2003 International 4300 truck under a free lease agreement that will have the company cycling in a newer model on a periodic basis as truck electronics systems advance.
A group of physician assistant students from Pennsylvania College of Technology recently participated in the Student Challenge Bowl at the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants' state conference. Shawn Sidey, a 1996 Pennsylvania College of Technology graduate and a supervisor at Starbucks Coffee's York roasting plant, returned to campus Monday to talk to classes in the School of Hospitality. Sidey joined Starbucks almost two years ago and works in Automated Coffee Roasting Systems, for which he supervises roasting for the third shift.
